| Austin Outlaws 35 - Memphis Soul 0 | ||||||||||||
|
The trip to Memphis was definitely an "Outlaw Adventure". It started off as a routine 12 hour bus ride, but about 40 miles outside of Texarkana, the Outlaw bus broke down on a fairly desolate stretch of highway. Many thanks to the great members of the Central Baptist Church in Prescott, AR!!! They got out of bed at almost midnight, and Despite the travel "glitches", the Outlaw spirit came through at gametime. Shadana Hurd led the Outlaws with 4 touchdowns including a 99.5 yd run on the first snap after the Outlaw defense stopped the Soul on their own 1 yard line. Monica Gauck also added a touchdown. Amber Lyons was perfect on the day with 5 PATs. The defense really stepped up in this game and rose to the challenge. With Austin's quick scoring on several drives, the defense had to control the field for a good portion of the game, and they did it with true grit. Sotonye "Doohickey" Dikibo had a great game at Linebacker - protecting the gaps on the run, and putting great pressure on the backfield. Justine "Wolfie" Wolfganger also played a spectactular game at corner, keeping outside containment and forcing Upcoming - Round 2 - Las Vegas Showgirlz (Home): The Vegas Showgirlz are a powerhouse team in the western division, and the Outlaws will need to be on the top of their game for this matchup. The Showgirlz are also a big passing team, so this game promises to be exciting!! Round 2 will be held July 10th at 7:00pm at Westlake HS. See the Schedule page for address and This season marks the 10th season for the Austin Outlaws, a rare accomplishment in women’s football. The Outlaws are chanting “Ten Years of Tuff!” as their battle cry this season, an appropriate slogan given the tough schedule the Outlaws will face in hopes of defending their division title. Of the 45-person roster, 28 players are returning for another season and average a total of 4.7 seasons of playing experience. Read more and see lots of pictures from the 2008 and 2009 season. |

Head Coach Narlen Says:
We're continuing to improve with our ability to execute plays correctly and understanding our individual responsibilities as a member of the team. The Aguilas Regias are very enthusiastic about playing football and growing as a competitive team
in the WFA. I hope this season gives them the experience they are so anxiously awaiting to get them to where they want to be.
Their efforts and attitudes are a positive reminder of why we play this game.
Looking into our next game against the Acadiana Zydeco, we'll be playing another team for the first time and expect a similar game as we had against the Aguilas Regias. They lost their first game against the New Orleans Blaze, so they'll be even more hungry to get their first win as a new team in the WFA. |
Monica was in obvious distress. Hurting in her chest - later xrays showed she had cracked a rib. Having trouble breathing with an apparent asthma attack.
Paramedics were giving her oxygen at half-time. Coach pulled her out of the game for her health. With only fifteen players on the team, in the Outlaw's early years, losing even one player put a strain on the rest. A few plays later Monica was back in the huddle. She'd sneaked back into the game...Read More |

There will be 2 games at 6:30pm and 8:00pm with games, activities, free food, and autographs by retired NFL Offensive Lineman Mike Rosenthal. The Outlaws are so proud to be able to support these girls in their quest to have girls flag football someday be an available UIL sport for girls all over Texas. (Of course we also hope that some of them will someday proudly to wear Outlaw jerseys).Celebration of Families Focus on Fitness The Outlaws really enjoyed their Saturday at the Celebration of Families at the Palmer Event Center on May 2. About 15 Outlaws did a toss the ball game and gave away Outlaw stuff. The team also tried something new this year, and took pictures with the fans, printed them and autographed them on the spot. I'm sure we'll do much more of that in the future. |
In the summer of 2000, professional women's full
contact football was introduced to Austin, Texas.
The announcement of professional NFL style tryouts drew hundreds of local female athletes who braved 110-degree heat to see if they had the right stuff.
