The Austin Outlaws hosted their first 2009 Season Tryouts on September 27th at Kealing Middle School. Tryouts were a great success with many new
faces and many returning veterans! Depth and talent already look great, and with two more rounds of tryouts to come, the possibility of bringing
home a National Championship is looking better and better!
The Outlaws started their home field season off right with a 42-6 win over the New Orleans Blaze.
Despite several injuries on the field, and a 45 min game delay due to lightening, the Outlaws
came out strong, playing a very physical game. The highlight of the game was 5 TDs by Shadana Hurd who ran for
well over 250 yards. Becky Lahmann also added a TD on a great pass from Julie Wilke late in the first half.
The defense really had to work hard in this one. Due to the quick scoring of Hurd, the defense was on the field for over
45 minutes of the game, holding New Orleans to a shutout until the last 8 seconds.
The Outlaws traveled to Waco, TX on April 26th to meet the North
Texas Fury (Dallas) team for a 2pm game.
There were some first quarter struggles for both teams, but the second quarter saw 2
interceptions by Monica Gauck - both run back for touchdowns giving
the Outlaws a 14-0 lead going into halftime. Julie Wilke later opened up the offensive scoring with a TD pass to
TE Tracey Suire, along with two TD passes to rookie receiver Becky
Lahmann.
The Outlaws opened their season in Houston, losing to the H-Town Cyclones by a slim margin of 27-20.
